HDMI 1.4 is just around the corner, and brings with it some exciting new features. All HDMI versions are backwards compatible, so you won't need to upgrade every bit of equipment you have, but if you buy some new equipment you can look forward to taking advantage of some of these amazing features:

• HDMI Ethernet Channel
  HDMI 1.4 will carry an integrated ethernet signal! So your ethernet enabled devices will be able to communicate with each other through an HDMI cable.
  
  
• Audio Return Channel
  Now HDMI 1.4 cables can send data back to surround sound systems, meaning you won't need a seperate audio cable. We get another step closer to HDMI being the one-stop audio visual cable.
  
  
• 3D Over HDMI
  3D screens are still in development, but with the future in mind, HDMI now includes the basic communication standards that the 3D forerunners are proposing. So when we do finally get 3DTV, HDMI will still be the cable of choice!
  
  
• 4K x 2K Video Support
  Huge new resolutions that match the standards used in digital cinema's, up to 4000 x 2000 pixels! Another one for the future.
  
  
• Additional Color Spaces
  Now you can swap between colour spaces, handy for digital photography, computer graphics and a host of other creative disciplines.
  
  
• HDMI Micro Connector
  Now full HD (up to 1080p) can be sent to mobile devices with the new micro connector. 
  
  
• Automotive Connection System
  New cables and connectors designed for use in vehicles, so you can use HD on the move!
